Code Enforcement

The Planning Department is responsible for enforcing city codes. The Code Enforcement Officer answers questions and investigates complaints on a wide variety of issues. These might include abandoned or illegally parked vehicles, unlawful dumping, unsafe buildings, animal problems and unmaintained properties.

If you wish to report a code violation, you may download a Complaint Form, fill it out and either bring it in or mail it to:

Planning Department
210 Laurel Ave.
Tillamook, OR 97141

You also may pick up a form at the Police or Planning Department or call (503) 354-7976.

Yard Maintenance

It is the responsibility of every property owner to maintain his or her property. This includes maintenance of plants and weeds on the property. Grass and other ground covers must be maintained at eight inches or less. Hedges must be maintained at three feet or less in front and street-side yards. All shrubs in the public right-of-way must be maintained at a height of three feet or less. Branches of trees extending over any public sidewalk should be trimmed to a height of not less than eight feet above the sidewalk. Vegetation and trees must be trimmed so as not to impair vision or obstruct the travel of motorists.

Inoperable Vehicles

To report an abandoned vehicle or one that appears to be inoperable, you may download a form or get one at the Police Department. Your report should note the license plate number, color, make, model and location of the vehicle and the length of time you have observed it at that location.

Junk and Debris

By city ordinance, junk, trash and debris may not be left in your yard. This includes such things as vehicle parts, appliances, furniture, building materials, tires, trash, cardboard, plastics, tree trimmings and fallen tree limbs. Such material must be properly disposed of. Failure to do so may result in citations and fines.

Animals

By ordinance, pet owners may not allow dogs to annoy others in the community by barking, running at large or creating a nuisance.
